HOW TO LUNCH ARCMAP AND ASSIGN COORDINATE SYSTEM (UNIVERSAL TRANSVERSE MERCATOR)

 

Launching of ArcGIS

Start your computer search for ArcMap program and double click on the ArcMap software to launch.

Importation of Map

Ø  Left click on file and scroll down to Add data it will bring out an interphase.

Ø  Select Connect to folder and select the location of the folder in the computer where the map was saved.

Ø  Then selected the data needed and clicked on add. (KASU imagery was selected and added)

Ø  The ArcGIS notify the following data you add are missing spatial reference information then click on yes.

ASSIGNING COORDINATE SYSTEM

To choose a coordinate system from the two coordinate systems, which are Geographic Coordinate system and Projected Coordinate System (Universal Traverse Mercator).

Ø  Right clicked on layer from Table of Content

Ø  Scroll down to properties and left click, a dialog box will appear.

Ø  Select coordinate system from the menu bar.

Ø  The two coordinate systems will appear select your coordinate of interest but for this practice, projected coordinate system was selected.

Ø  Then scroll down to UTM left click and select Northern Hemisphere.

Ø  Left click on Northern Hemisphere and scroll down to WGS 1984 UTM Zone 32N

Ø  Left click on Apply and click on OK.
